Though it is bundled with Red Hat Business Automation, Red Hat Business Optimization can stand on its own. RHBO is a constraint solver. What does that mean? I'm not sure. Kidding. It means that, given a certain set of data definitions (constraints), the open source planning engine can solve a certain business problem.
Examples explain it best. And the classic example is that of the traveling salesman. Given a certain number of locations and a certain amount of time, what route should a salesman travel in order to optimize his sales? Another example: given a certain number of skilled employees and a certain number of shifts that need to be filled, how can I schedule my staff roster most efficiently?
